We are all afraid to try something new. We prefer to stick with the same lifestyle, the same job, the same routine. When we think about doing or trying something new, the doubts enter our minds so quickly that we abandon the idea entirely. We abandon the idea of exercising because we think about the people who are stronger and more fit. We abandon the idea of pursuing a childhood passion because there isn’t enough money in it or it won’t make our parents proud. We abandon the idea of standing out and speaking our mind because we will receive criticism from others. We just simply abandon the idea of becoming a better person with the potential to make an impact.

We get too comfortable and don’t want to change anything. We get too comfortable with our jobs and don’t want to pursue other opportunities. We get too comfortable watching videos of celebrities and not wanting to work hard and become one. We get too comfortable watching professional athletes and thinking that my time to go pro is long gone. We get too comfortable allowing life to just take its course and not changing it in any way. Doubts enter our mind so easily. I don’t have any experience. I don’t have the right education. I don’t have the resources. I don’t have the skills. How can I get people to listen to me? How can I get more subscribers for my channel? Why doesn’t anyone care?

The answer to all of these questions is that with patience and hard work, results will always follow. You may not see a ton of results right away, but they will definitely come. We all have to start down below to rise up. It’s a tough journey but just know that there are always people rooting for your success. It may be your family, your friends, your spouse, your best friend, your supervisor, your teachers, or your dog. There will always be at least one person in your life who will smile and be proud at your achievements, no matter how small they are. And if you stick with the journey, the amount of supporters will grow over time and provide you with the confidence you need to keep going.

I am writing all of this so that I can hopefully wake people up. I want to wake you all up and tell you to go try something new today. Go pursue a passion. Don’t worry about how crazy the idea may sound in your head and don’t worry about what others will think. Just get up from your bed or couch or work desk and go do something new today. Go take some pictures outside because you’ve always been into photography. Go apply for that position that you think you’re never going to get. Go exercise at the gym because you want to lose weight or gain muscle. Go tell that person your feelings you’ve been keeping bottled up inside you for so long. If now is not the time, then when is?

The more comfortable we get now, the more our opportunities slip away. You don’t want to be that person who looks back at their life one day and says, I wish I took more risks. That person who desperately wishes they could just rewind and try something new again. Unfortunately, there’s no rewind button when we’re too old and there’s no forward button when we’re young. The truth is that everyone has conveniently pushed the pause button and is living a life without taking any risks.

So I implore you to go ahead and push the play button. Push the button and push your life forward in the direction you want it to go. Change your life one step at a time, no matter how small the step may be. Try something new today and stick with it. Then one day, you’ll be that person who looks back at their life and says, I wouldn’t have changed a single thing.
