Kyle looked at himself in his bathroom mirror with regret. “What am I doing with my life?” he thought. Every day was a struggle for him. Low grades, depression, and no hope for a bright future loomed over Kyle’s head with every breathe he took. Looking away from the mirror, he turned off the lights and exited the bathroom. His head was slowly spinning out of control and he felt dizzy. As he went back to his room, he pulled out a half-drunken rum bottle from underneath his bed. “Is this really the solution to all my problems?” he thought. Kyle stared at his alarm clock that illuminated 4:13am, dreading the fact that he had to be awake for class in a few hours. He decided to save the remainder of his bottle for another night and placed it back underneath his bed. Before lying down, he decided to take a quick look outside from his window blinds. Kyle’s house was located at the bend of the road, providing a convenient view of the entire street in front of him. It was definitely a cold and quiet night, as his street was shrouded in darkness. There were no cars being driven around this late and there was nobody strolling outside. As his gaze swept the area across his house, his eyes unexpectedly came upon a man dressed in black. He stood by himself on the sidewalk underneath a dimly-lit lamp post, appearing to be waiting for someone. With squinted eyes, Kyle made out that the figure was standing as still as a statue. Upon closer look, he noticed something horrifying. There was red blood oozing and dripping down from where the man’s eyes were supposed to be. He then raised his head towards Kyle’s direction. The hideous man opened his mouth and began wailing and screaming without a tongue. Absolutely terrified, Kyle bolted back to the bathroom and splashed water all over his eyes. He rubbed them as hard as he could and thought he was either a having a really bad nightmare or that the alcohol he drank had truly impaired his senses. He took a deep breath and went back to his room to look outside the window blinds again. There was no one there. The dark street was back to being quiet without any trace of life. “I’m seriously losing my shit,” he thought to himself. He retreated back into the safety of his bed and closed his eyes to get what little sleep he could…
